You came into my world,
Lungs bursting forth with cries of life,
And ever since that day,
Muted you have remained.
I talk, I plead, I coax, I yearn, I beg,
But no matter what I do,
The words just won't come.
I see the other mothers engage their own,
Outwardly I nod and smile,
Inside my soul aches and pains.
And then I realize that to embrace you is to know you,
And then my heart is mended once more.
