The Awe in Autism project
The inspiration for aweinautism.org was the song for dylan, written by this site’s cofounder Deborah French and her son Timothy Busching.
Deborah French wrote the lyrics to the song for dylan after meeting cofounder Kim Covell’s son Dylan for the first time. Dylan was diagnosed with autism at age six.

When Kim heard the lyrics, she was so moved by them that Deborah came up with a simple melody, then called her son Timothy Busching, an accomplished musician, and asked him to write the music. The song received a wonderful response from those who first heard it; subsequently, filmmaker George Motz, Kim’s brother-in-law, volunteered to produce the music video version. The video premiered in 2007 at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center during an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
Through that experience, Kim and Deborah realized the potential for creative works of all kinds to provide inspiration for those affected by autism. This site is founded on that belief. Please visit our gallery to enjoy a variety of artistic projects inspired by the world of autism.
